Religion
For the most part, Basques have been Roman Catholic. The Basque country has been the homeland for many famous Catholics such as; Ignatius of Loyola and Francis Xavier, both missionaries and Saints. Although, when the sprout of Protestants began in England, Protestants also spread to Spain, and in return the Basque country. Although Roman Catholicism still dominated, Protestants still thrived.
Pre-Catholic
Before Catholicism arrived in the Basque Country, the Basques worshiped Gods and had myths like any other "isolated" peoples would. These Gods and idols could be related to the Maori people of New Zealand and their idol, Paikea. The Basques also had many traditions derived from these myths and stories, such as their food style, their love for nature, and their dancing, which is a very respected Basque art.
